Michael was hard at work, covering as much of the paperwork as he could. It was impossible to focus, but he had been through this too many times in his life. In a world of mortals, an immortal just as he always found himself alone in the end. But it was when a mortal was cut down too early, far before they were meant to go, that it stung.
